Sergeant (seven weeks leave)
Sergeants on the seven-weeks-leave salary table, from 7 August 2026.
Senior Sergeant (seven weeks leave)
Senior sergeants on the seven-weeks-leave salary table, from 7 August 2026.
Every salary links to its take-home figure. Take-home pages exist for every $1,000 up to $150,000 and in wider steps above that, so a salary without a page of its own links to the nearest one.
Recruit and trainee police pay
Recruits in training are paid $74,619 a year from 7 August 2026 on the seven-weeks-leave table, rising to $79,095 after 4 months (Attachment A clause 7).
Recruit Constables in training at the NTPFES College are excluded from the General Policing Allowance and the Night Shift Allowance (clauses 17 and 20).
Shift penalties, loadings and allowances
Base salary is not the whole of it: police officers on rotating rosters are paid extra for shift work. In summary, from the Northern Territory Police Force Consent Agreement 2025:
- Consolidated Allowance (clause 15): increased from 20% to 23% of salary for the life of the agreement.
- General Policing Allowance (clause 17): 5% of base annual salary, paid fortnightly to Senior Sergeants and below (not recruits in training).
- Night Shift Allowance (clause 20): 15% of base annual salary for each night shift actually worked, for Senior Sergeants and below; not payable when the night shift is worked as overtime.
Check the instrument for the exact conditions that apply to your roster. Overtime is worked out separately — the overtime pay calculator handles time and a half and double time.
What a NT police officer salary is worth after tax
Every salary in the tables links to its take-home figure. Start with take-home pay on $87,000 for the entry rate or take-home pay on $121,000 for the top of the scale. Those figures cover base salary only; shift penalties and allowances are taxed as ordinary income on top.
Employer superannuation is paid on top of these salaries. For your own pay including penalties, a study loan or salary packaging, use the take-home pay calculator or the NT pay calculator.
What this page does not show
We publish only what we could read from a primary source. These are left off rather than estimated:
- The agreement does not itself say which members are on the seven-weeks-leave table and which are on the six-weeks-leave table; that is set by the parent Police Arbitral Tribunal Determination No. 1 of 2011, which was not read for this page.
- How the 23% Consolidated Allowance applies (which members and rosters) is set by Determination No. 1 of 2011, which was not read for this page.

How this page is sourced▼
Every salary on this page was read from the Northern Territory Police Force Consent Agreement 2025 or Northern Territory Police’s own published pay table on 24 September 2026, and applies from 7 August 2026. Nothing is estimated, averaged or interpolated. Where the instrument publishes a weekly or fortnightly rate, the annual figure is that rate multiplied out and the published rate is shown in the notes column.
Take-home figures come from the site’s own calculator using ATO rates for the current income year.
