The agreement passed its nominal expiry date on 2 December 2025, and the 2 December 2024 rates are the last it prints. After the Fair Work Commission's intractable bargaining declaration of 4 September 2026, the Commissioner for Public Employment said on 23 September 2026 that the existing 2021–2025 agreement remains in place.

Which agreement sets NT prison officer pay
Prison officers employed by NT Correctional Services are paid under the Correctional Officer (NTPS) 2021-2025 Enterprise Agreement. The rates below apply from 2 December 2024 and were read from the source on 9 October 2026.
NT Correctional Services pay scale — every classification
Annual full-time base salary before tax and before superannuation. Part-time staff are paid pro rata.
Correctional Officer (CO) and First Class
Schedule 1, salary from the first pay period commencing on or after 2 December 2024 — the last increase in the agreement.
Senior Correctional Officer (SCO)
Schedule 1, from the first pay period on or after 2 December 2024.
Every salary links to its take-home figure. Take-home pages exist for every $1,000 up to $150,000 and in wider steps above that, so a salary without a page of its own links to the nearest one.
Trainee and probationary prison officer pay
Schedule 1 prints two trainee rates from the first pay period on or after 2 December 2024: "TCO (block)" at $62,167 a year and "TCO (balance)" at $69,074, the same as CO (1).
Trainees receive the 40% consolidated allowance only for duty performed in a gazetted correctional centre during in-service orientation (clause 14.4).
Shift penalties, loadings and allowances
Base salary is not the whole of it: prison officers on rotating rosters are paid extra for shift work. In summary, from the Correctional Officer (NTPS) 2021-2025 Enterprise Agreement:
- Correctional officers are paid a consolidated allowance of 40% of salary instead of leave loading, penalty rates for shift work (including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays) and days off in lieu for rostered days falling on public holidays (clause 14.1). It counts for all forms of leave but not for overtime (clause 14.3).
Check the instrument for the exact conditions that apply to your roster. Overtime is worked out separately — the overtime pay calculator handles time and a half and double time.
What a NT prison officer salary is worth after tax
Every salary in the tables links to its take-home figure. Start with take-home pay on $69,000 for the entry rate or take-home pay on $79,000 for the top of the scale. Those figures cover base salary only; shift penalties and allowances are taxed as ordinary income on top.
Employer superannuation is paid on top of these salaries. For your own pay including penalties, a study loan or salary packaging, use the take-home pay calculator or the NT pay calculator.
What this page does not show
We publish only what we could read from a primary source. These are left off rather than estimated:
- Senior Industry Officer and other non-custodial rows in Schedule 1, which are not reproduced here.
- Any outcome of the intractable bargaining process, which had not been decided when we checked.

How this page is sourced▼
Every salary on this page was read from the Correctional Officer (NTPS) 2021-2025 Enterprise Agreement or NT Correctional Services’s own published pay table on 9 October 2026, and applies from 2 December 2024. Nothing is estimated, averaged or interpolated. Where the instrument publishes a weekly or fortnightly rate, the annual figure is that rate multiplied out and the published rate is shown in the notes column.
Take-home figures come from the site’s own calculator using ATO rates for the current income year.
