Manufacturing Award Pay Rates by Level
Adult minimum rates for full-time and part-time employees under the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020. Part-time employees are paid the same hourly rate as full-time employees at their classification — the difference is hours, not rate. The casual column adds the 25% loading (cl 11.1(a)).

In this award casual penalties compound
Most awards add the casual loading to the penalty (Saturday 150% becomes 175%). The Manufacturing award applies the penalty to the casual ordinary hourly rate instead (cl 11.1(d), 32.1(f)). A casual C14 working at 150% is paid 150% of $32.18, which is $48.27 — the award's own Schedule C figure — not $45.05. Weekend work is also not ordinary time for day workers unless it has been agreed; without agreement it is overtime.

Casual figures apply each percentage to the casual ordinary hourly rate (the minimum rate plus 25%), as this award requires. Figures are rounded to the cent. A dash means the column does not apply to that classification.

Day workers' ordinary hours are Monday to Friday between 6.00 am and 6.00 pm (cl 17.2). Saturday and Sunday are ordinary hours only by agreement — without one, weekend work is paid as overtime.
For casuals every percentage applies to the casual ordinary hourly rate, which already includes the 25% loading (cl 11.1(d)). A casual Saturday at 150% is therefore 187.5% of the base rate — this award compounds where most others add.
Saturday, Sunday and public holiday shift rates replace the afternoon and night shift loadings rather than adding to them (cl 33.2(i)–(j)). Extra rates, other than special rates and public holiday rates, are not cumulative beyond double the ordinary hourly rate (cl 26).

Source: cl 32.
Overtime for casuals is calculated on the casual ordinary hourly rate (cl 32.1(f)). Each day's overtime stands alone (cl 32.1(e)), and the hourly rate is the weekly rate divided by 38 even in a week of more than 38 ordinary hours (cl 32.1(d)).
A call back after leaving work is paid for at least 4 hours at overtime rates, or 3 hours for an employee regularly required to be ready for call back (cl 32.13).
Manufacturing Award Junior Rates
Junior rates are a percentage of the C13 / V2 rate (cl 25.1), and apply to unapprenticed juniors, as a percentage of the C13 / V2 rate — not foundry juniors (cl 25.3) or juniors on the heavy operations in cl 25.4, who have their own rules. The dollar columns apply the percentage to C13 / V2 ($1,004.90 a week) and divide by 38. The full adult rate applies from age 21.

What This Page Does Not Cover
These parts of the award carry rules or rates we have not verified line by line, so we publish no figures for them:
- Vehicle manufacturing employees under Part 9 (cl 48–57), which carry their own loadings, allowances and overtime rules
- Apprentice, adult apprentice, cadet and trainee rates (cl 21–24)
- Supervisor/Trainer/Coordinator rates, which are a formula on the rate of the employees supervised (cl 20.1(g))
- Phased-in rates for employees without relevant work experience (cl 20.1(e)–(f))
- Height money, ship repair and the other special rates in cl 30.4 not listed here
An enterprise agreement, if one covers your workplace, replaces these award rates — though it must leave you better off overall.
When These Rates Took Effect
Applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026, not universally 1 July. If your pay period began before 1 July 2026, the previous rate lawfully applies to that whole period and the rise starts with the next one. The award was varied by determination PR799291 following the Annual Wage Review 2026. If you have been paid below these rates, our backpay calculator works out what is owed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Manufacturing Award questions and answers
What are the manufacturing award pay rates for 2026-27?
Under the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020 (MA000010), adult minimum rates run from $25.74 an hour ($978.10 a week) for C14 / V1 to $39.83 an hour ($1,513.70 a week) for C2(b) / V14. They apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026.
What is the casual rate under the Manufacturing Award?
Casuals receive a 25% loading, so C14 / V1 becomes $32.18 an hour. In this award penalty, shift and overtime percentages for casuals are applied to that casual rate, so they compound: a casual paid 150% receives 150% of $32.18, which is $48.27.
What allowances are paid under the Manufacturing Award?
The award's allowances clause (cl 30) includes: leading hand — in charge of 3 to 10 employees $48.98 per week; leading hand — in charge of 11 to 20 employees $73.15 per week; leading hand — in charge of more than 20 employees $93.12 per week; tool allowance — tradesperson $17.90 per week; tool allowance — carpenter, joiner or shipwright/boatbuilder $33.88 per week. Allowances are paid on top of the classification rate when the employee meets the clause's conditions.
What are the junior rates under the Manufacturing Award?
Junior rates are a percentage of the C13 / V2 rate (cl 25.1): Under 16 36.8%, 16 47.3%, 17 57.8%, 18 68.3%, 19 82.5%, 20 97.7%. The full adult rate applies from age 21. They apply to unapprenticed juniors, as a percentage of the C13 / V2 rate — not foundry juniors (cl 25.3) or juniors on the heavy operations in cl 25.4, who have their own rules.
When did the new manufacturing award rates start?
Applies from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026, not universally 1 July. The MA000010 rates were varied by determination PR799291 following the Annual Wage Review 2026. If your pay period started before 1 July 2026, the old rate lawfully applies to that whole period.
What is the C10 rate under the manufacturing award?
C10 — the Engineering/Manufacturing Tradesperson Level I, the base trade rate — is $1,119.10 a week or $29.45 an hour from 1 July 2026. A tradesperson who supplies their own tools is also paid a $17.90 weekly tool allowance, which is an all-purpose allowance.
What are the manufacturing award shift rates?
Afternoon and night shift are 115% of the ordinary hourly rate, and permanent night shift is 130%. Saturday shifts are 150%, Sunday shifts 200% and public holiday shifts 250% (for non-continuous shiftworkers); these weekend and holiday rates replace the shift loading rather than adding to it.
How is overtime paid under the manufacturing award?
150% for the first 3 hours and 200% after that. Saturday overtime for a day worker is 150% for 3 hours then 200%, with a minimum payment of 4 hours. Sunday overtime is 200% with a 3-hour minimum, and public holiday overtime is 250% for a day worker. Continuous shiftworkers are paid 200% for all overtime.
How these rates were verified▼
Every figure comes from one constants file transcribed on 23 September 2026 from the Fair Work Commission’s consolidated MA000010 award text, which incorporates all amendments up to and including 1 July 2026 (PR799280, PR799291 and PR799448). Clause numbers are cited against each table. Hourly is the published weekly rate divided by 38; derived dollar figures are rounded half up to the cent.
Automated tests pin the published rates, check every hourly rate against its weekly rate, and assert the rules this award is most often modelled wrongly on — including that casual penalties compound on the casual rate. Parts of the award we have not verified are listed as gaps rather than estimated.
