JB Hi-Fi Pay Rates 2026 — Hourly Wage by Age & Level

An adult JB Hi-Fi employee at Retail employee level 1 is paid $27.81 an hour as a full-time or part-time worker, or $34.76 as a casual, under the General Retail Industry Award 2020. Those rates apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026. Weekend, evening and public holiday work is paid at the penalty rates below.

Pay Calculator Australia is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by JB Hi-Fi. Rates are read from the public modern award on the Fair Work Ombudsman website, verified 24 September 2026.

These are the General Retail Industry Award minimums that apply to JB Hi-Fi store staff. JB Hi-Fi's actual pay rates, and any sales incentives, are not published, so your pay may be higher — it cannot be lower.

Your payslip must name the award or agreement you are paid under, and your classification level. If it says Retail Award, match your level to the table below.

Which award sets JB Hi-Fi pay

JB Hi-Fi electronics retail staff are paid under the General Retail Industry Award 2020 (MA000004). We found no enterprise agreement for JB Hi-Fi stores: the only JB Hi-Fi agreements approved by the Fair Work Commission since 2019 cover its Victorian Home Delivery Centre, a warehouse. Store staff are engaged under the General Retail Industry Award, as the Fair Work Ombudsman's 2015 compliance deed with JB Hi-Fi records. The award is a minimum; JB Hi-Fi can pay more.

Employer: JB Hi-Fi Group Pty Ltd

Next scheduled increase: First full pay period on or after 1 December 2026 (juniors aged 18 and 19). Staff aged 18 or 19 at Levels 1 to 3 who have worked for their employer for more than 6 months move up: 18-year-olds from 70% to 75% and 19-year-olds from 80% to 85% of the adult rate (determination PR813655). At Level 1 that is $20.86 and $23.64 an hour. Adult rates next change with the 2027 Annual Wage Review.

For the underlying award minimums across every employer in the industry, see Retail Award rates 2026.

JB Hi-Fi pay rates by age (junior rates)

Junior employees are paid a set percentage of the adult Retail employee level 1 rate for their age. Retail Award junior percentages (cl 17.2) apply only at Levels 1 to 3; a junior doing Level 4 work or above gets the full adult rate. A 20-year-old who has worked for the employer for more than 6 months already gets 100%.

The percentages are the instrument’s own. The dollar figures are our arithmetic — the percentage applied to the adult Retail employee level 1 rate, rounded to the cent — because the instrument does not print junior dollars. Your payslip may differ by a cent.

JB Hi-Fi penalty rates: evenings, weekends and public holidays

Penalty rates are a percentage of the base hourly rate for your level (or, where stated, a flat amount per hour) for hours worked at the times below.

  • Percentages are of the minimum hourly rate for your level (award cl 22.1, Table 12, for employees who are not shiftworkers). Casual figures add the 25% loading rather than multiply it: Sunday casual is 175%, not 187.5%.
  • For an adult Level 1 employee that is $34.76 an hour on a weekday evening or Saturday ($41.72 casual), $41.72 on a Sunday ($48.67 casual) and $62.57 on a public holiday ($69.53 casual).
  • Staff employed specifically as shiftworkers (for example night fill on shifts) are paid under the award's shiftwork rates instead: 130% Monday to Friday, 150% Saturday and 175% Sunday (casual 155%, 175%, 200%).

What this page does not show

We publish only what we could read from a primary source. Left off rather than estimated:

  • JB Hi-Fi's actual hourly rates, above-award payments and sales incentives — not public.
  • Which award level each JB Hi-Fi store role is classified at — JB Hi-Fi does not publish this.
  • Agreements approved before 2019 were not checked one by one; none was found in searches.
  • The Good Guys (owned by JB Hi-Fi) — no agreement found for it either, but not researched separately.

JB Hi-Fi pay questions

JB Hi-Fi store staff are covered by the General Retail Industry Award, so an adult must be paid at least $27.81 an hour at Level 1, or $34.76 as a casual, from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026. JB Hi-Fi does not publish its own rates, and it can pay more than the award.

Not for its stores, as far as we could find. The only JB Hi-Fi agreements approved by the Fair Work Commission since 2019 cover its Victorian Home Delivery Centre. Store staff are engaged under the General Retail Industry Award.

Under the Retail Award, 16-year-olds at Levels 1 to 3 get at least 50% of the adult rate ($13.91 an hour, or $17.39 as a casual) and 17-year-olds 60% ($16.69, casual $20.86). These are our arithmetic from the award percentages.

Under the Retail Award, permanent staff get at least 150% on Sundays ($41.72 an hour at Level 1) and 225% on public holidays ($62.57). Casuals get 175% ($48.67) and 250% ($69.53), including the casual loading.

At least the Retail Award rate plus a 25% casual loading: $34.76 an hour at Level 1. Weekday evenings after 6pm and Saturdays pay casuals 150%, which is $41.72 an hour at Level 1.

How this page is sourced▼

Every rate on this page was read from the General Retail Industry Award 2020 (MA000004) and the Fair Work Ombudsman pay guide on 24 September 2026. Nothing is estimated or averaged. Junior dollar figures the instrument does not print are calculated from its own percentages and labelled as such.

Rates change on dates written into the award (usually 1 July each year), and a new agreement can replace this one. Re-check against your payslip and the instrument itself; the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94) can confirm what applies to you.
