ACT Policing officers are AFP employees; there is no separate ACT police pay instrument. The same AFP bands apply to AFP sworn members nationally.
The agreement has a nominal expiry date three years after its 9 December 2024 commencement. The 9 December 2026 rise is its last scheduled increase.
The AFP does not use a Senior Sergeant rank in this structure. Band 8 and Executive Level rates are in the agreement but not reproduced here.

Team Leader/Sergeant broadband (bands 6–7)
AFP sworn members in team leader/sergeant roles, from 9 December 2025. Entry is by merit selection at 6.1; advancement from 6.3 to 7.2 requires meeting assessment criteria.
Every salary links to its take-home figure. Take-home pages exist for every $1,000 up to $150,000 and in wider steps above that, so a salary without a page of its own links to the nearest one.
Recruit and trainee police pay
A new employee who joins the AFP as a police recruit starts at band and increment point 2.3 and stays there until they complete the recruit training program (section 101). From 9 December 2025 Band 2.3 is $69,698 a year, rising to $71,580 from 9 December 2026.
The agreement's progression table sets a minimum of 19 weeks at Band 2.3 from the start of recruit training. A current AFP employee who becomes a police recruit keeps the salary of their previous role.
Shift penalties, loadings and allowances
Base salary is not the whole of it: police officers on rotating rosters are paid extra for shift work. In summary, from the Australian Federal Police Enterprise Agreement 2024 - 2027:
- Core Composite (section 27): employees on the Operations or Rostered Operations working pattern receive 22% of base salary, which counts as salary for superannuation, to recognise expanded hours and shift patterns including afternoon shifts, night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
- High-volume Operations areas identified by the Commissioner attract the 22% Core Composite plus an additional composite of 35% of base salary, which does not count for superannuation.
- Night Shift Allowance (section 40): $9.88 for each hour worked between midnight and 6am from 9 December 2025 ($10.15 from 9 December 2026), for roles on the Operations or Rostered Operations working pattern.
Check the instrument for the exact conditions that apply to your roster. Overtime is worked out separately — the overtime pay calculator handles time and a half and double time.
What a ACT police officer salary is worth after tax
Every salary in the tables links to its take-home figure. Start with take-home pay on $72,000 for the entry rate or take-home pay on $112,000 for the top of the scale. Those figures cover base salary only; shift penalties and allowances are taxed as ordinary income on top.
Employer superannuation is paid on top of these salaries. For your own pay including penalties, a study loan or salary packaging, use the take-home pay calculator or the ACT pay calculator.
What this page does not show
We publish only what we could read from a primary source. These are left off rather than estimated:
- The agreement pays by band, not rank title. The rank names in the notes (Constable, Senior Constable, Leading Senior Constable) come from the AFP's Skilled police program page, not from the agreement itself.
- Any ACT Policing-specific allowances outside the enterprise agreement are not covered here.

How this page is sourced▼
Every salary on this page was read from the Australian Federal Police Enterprise Agreement 2024 - 2027 or AFP (ACT Policing)’s own published pay table on 24 September 2026, and applies from 9 December 2025. Nothing is estimated, averaged or interpolated. Where the instrument publishes a weekly or fortnightly rate, the annual figure is that rate multiplied out and the published rate is shown in the notes column.
Take-home figures come from the site’s own calculator using ATO rates for the current income year.
