Sergeant (clause 8.1.1, Column A)
Sergeants, from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025.
Inspector (clause 8.1.1, Column A)
Commissioned officers at the rank of Inspector, from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025.
Every salary links to its take-home figure. Take-home pages exist for every $1,000 up to $150,000 and in wider steps above that, so a salary without a page of its own links to the nearest one.
Recruit and trainee police pay
Trainee constables are paid $61,801 a year from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025 (the award's "Trainee" rate), rising to $63,655 from 1 December 2026.
The award allows the Controlling Authority to pay a Trainee Constable at a salary in the Constable's salary scale (clause 8.3.2).
Shift penalties, loadings and allowances
Base salary is not the whole of it: police officers on rotating rosters are paid extra for shift work. In summary, from the Police Award (Order No 2 of 2026 consolidation):
- 24-hour rotational roster (clause 19.1): constables and sergeants are paid an annual allowance of 28% of normal salary in lieu of shift work and penalty payments, including afternoon, night, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday work.
- Non-24-hour rotational roster (clause 19.2): 21% of normal salary in lieu of shift and penalty payments.
- Other rosters (clause 19.3), mainly day work with occasional afternoon and weekend shifts: 15% of normal salary.
- Physical Surveillance, Police Technical Support (Surveillance) and Special Operations Group members not on a 24-hour roster: 26% of normal salary (clause 19.1(c)).
Check the instrument for the exact conditions that apply to your roster. Overtime is worked out separately — the overtime pay calculator handles time and a half and double time.
What a TAS police officer salary is worth after tax
Every salary in the tables links to its take-home figure. Start with take-home pay on $74,000 for the entry rate or take-home pay on $107,000 for the top of the scale. Those figures cover base salary only; shift penalties and allowances are taxed as ordinary income on top.
Employer superannuation is paid on top of these salaries. For your own pay including penalties, a study loan or salary packaging, use the take-home pay calculator or the TAS pay calculator.

How this page is sourced▼
Every salary on this page was read from the Police Award (Order No 2 of 2026 consolidation) or Tasmania Police’s own published pay table on 24 September 2026, and applies from 1 December 2025. Nothing is estimated, averaged or interpolated. Where the instrument publishes a weekly or fortnightly rate, the annual figure is that rate multiplied out and the published rate is shown in the notes column.
Take-home figures come from the site’s own calculator using ATO rates for the current income year.
