Commission-only agents are not paid the minimum weekly rate (cl 14.3). The award's objective is that a commission-only salesperson should earn 125% or more of the annual minimum wage for their level (cl 16.7(b)).
Which award covers real estate agents
Real estate salespeople employed by an agency are covered by the Real Estate Industry Award 2020 [MA000106]. The award has four levels. Level 1 (Associate) assists more senior staff and does not list or sell property. Level 2 (Representative) is responsible for listing and selling property or businesses, or helping clients buy. Levels 3 and 4 are supervisory and in-charge roles.
The award allows a salesperson to be paid wages, wages plus commission, bonus or incentive payments (cl 16.1), or commission only (cl 16.7). The minimum weekly rates below apply to everyone except commission-only employees (cl 14.3). Commission-only is allowed only for Level 2 and above, and only if every condition in clause 16.7 is met.

What real estate agents actually earn
Jobs and Skills Australia puts median full-time earnings for Real Estate Sales Agents (ANZSCO 6121) at $1,504 a week ($40 an hour), against $1,852 a week for all occupations.
Median weekly pay of full-time, non-managerial adult employees before tax and salary sacrifice, from the ABS Survey of Employee Earnings and Hours (May 2025) as published by Jobs and Skills Australia. It reflects what employers actually pay, including people on enterprise agreements or above-award salaries, so it is a market figure, not a legal minimum.
What this page does not show
- Commission percentages: the award leaves them to the written agreement between you and the agency.
- Junior rates, which apply to associates under 21 but never to commission-only agents.
- Vehicle and other expense allowances in clause 17.

Every minimum rate was read from the Fair Work Commission's consolidated text of the Real Estate Industry Award 2020, consolidated to 1 July 2026, on 23 September 2026. Casual rates are the award's own published figures wherever it publishes them. Nothing is estimated.
The median comes from Jobs and Skills Australia’s occupation profile and is a market figure, not an entitlement. Take-home figures use the same tax engine as the rest of this site. Award rates change every 1 July, so re-check after the next Annual Wage Review.
